The Awde Education Fund |
The Awde Education Fund was established in 2007 to assist descendants of James Awde and Sarah Allan with tuition costs through interest free loans and grants for academic achievement. In the first year, the Awde Fund has provided interest free loans for two students in the Fall term. Up to ten students may receive assistance for each term. For 2008-09, the Fund is offering four special awards and bursaries for students qualifying for financial assistance. |
The Awde Education Fund may also receive and disburse funds to educational institutions for the purpose of capital improvements or for general awards programs that meet criteria established by the Fund Founders and Directors. In 2007, for instance, the Awde Education Fund provided a matching grant to purchase additional computers for a municipal branch library. The Fund is also in the process of developing an agreement with the Hamiltion Conservation Authority to plant trees on vacant land to assist in reforestation and extension of conservation areas to be used for educational purposes. Under this unique arrangement, the Awde Education Fund will receive 50% of future revenue from harvest of mature trees on these lands. |
