The Awde Education Fund

Encouraging Academic Excellence

The Awde Education Fund was established in 2007 to assist descendants of James Awde and Sarah Allan with tuition costs through interest free loans and grants recognizing  academic achievement.

By helping students in our family to obtain a quality education, more may achieve scholastic and professional success, enabling them to hopefully assist others through this Fund in the future.

The Awde Education Fund may also receive and disburse funds to educational institutions for the purpose of capital improvements or for general awards programs that meet criteria established by
the Fund Founders and Directors. Some projects supported by the Fund include:

• The Whitman Award for a graduating student at Hagersville Secondary School each year in recognition of their academic and social cause achievements, in recognition and memory of Brian Whitman, who taught English for over 20 years at the school.

• Matching grants to a municipal library to purchase additional computers for early childhood education.

• Funding for the musical program at the Rolling Hills School in memory of Allan and Hilda Awde.

• Planting trees for the Hamilton Conservation Authority at the Karst Eramosa park area and  the planting  of 3000 trees in the City of Kawartha Lakes  since 2009 that will eventually be sustainably harvested with proceeds used to support the Awde Education Fund.

•  The Awde Education Fund is a proud supporter of the amazing work of Me to We and Free the Children 

• The Awde Education Fund also supports the work of the Machik organization to assist in the construction of schools in Tibet.
